“The people do not have to enter BS Aquino’s martial law experiential museum at Camp Aquinaldo in Quezon City to relive the terror of the Marcos’ martial law regime,” said Marie Hilao-Enrquez, Karapatan Chairperson, citing the several layers of police barricades that tried to block the rallyists from going to the EDSA Shrine. Karapatan and the contingent of CARMMA (Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacanang) joined the rally led by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) in the afternoon of February 25.
Please join us in calling for an independent investigation on the burning of the evacuation camp of Lumad at the compound of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) in Davao City on February 24, 2016. Let us join hands in calling for an end to the harassment of Lumad evacuees and the pullout of military troops in Talaingod, Davao del Norte and Bukidnon where the Lumad evacuees came from.
Thirty years after the people’s victory to overthrow the Marcos fascist, corrupt, and puppet regime looms the threat of the return of the Marcos’ son, confidently inching his way to the realm of power with his well of resources from the loot of the past. The past that Marcos Jr arrogantly refers to as the country’s glorious days.
After 21 years of JASIG
“It has been 21 years since the Philippine government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines signed the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG); and, for 21 years, this agreement continues to be violated by the Philippine Government (GPH) through arrests and detention and abduction of peace consultants,” Karapatan chairperson Marie Hilao-Enriquez said today. Hilao-Enriquez is one of the independent observers of the peace negotiations between the GPH and the NDFP.
Counsels for the detained National Democratic Front of the Philippines peace consultant Wilma Austria-Tiamzon manifested in court last February 19 to allow Austria to undergo a follow-up medical checkup and treatment earlier scheduled on March 16, 2016 but has remained pending at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 216 since it was filed on February 16, 2016.
For the second time, Jovito Palparan Jr. insisted to represent himself in Court for the kidnapping case at the Malolos Regional Trial Court.
Palparan said “there is a question of trust” and that he is not “amicable” with the representation from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Bulacan chapter. He claimed he can defend himself being a former investigating officer.
Karapatan Alliance for the Advancement of People’s Rights - Philippines strongly condemns the atrocious practices and treatment of the Israeli occupation entity to Palestininan political prisoners. We particularly call for the immediate release of prisoner Mohammed al Qeeq, a journalist on hunger strike for 85 days now. He has lost his eyesight and hearing, and is reported to be close to death in the hospital bed of HaEmek in Afula.

Bongbong Marcos’ refusal to apologize for the crimes committed by the US-Marcos dictatorship and his endless attempt to deflect the issue of martial law are sure signs of danger.
On February 9, National Democratic Front peace consultants Benito and Wilma Tiamzon were brought to Manila Regional trial Court Branch 32 to hear the direct examination of the prosecution’s witness Police Superintendent Edwin Zata. Zata claimed he was among those who responded during the exhumation of the supposed skeletal remains in a “mass grave” in Inopacan, Leyte.

“AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Hernando Iriberri’s statement to ‘declare remaining 12 provinces’, mostly Davao and Caraga provinces, as ‘peaceful and ready for development’ literally means death to the civilians in these regions,” Cristina Palabay, Karapatan secretary general said. Right after this year’s first command conference of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, it has gone on a killing bonanza, “with four victims of extrajudicial killing in the Davao and Compostela provinces alone.”
“The Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) is BS Aquino’s ex-deal for an increased US military assistance at the expense of our nation’s sovereignty,” Cristina Palabay, Karapatan secretary general, said today as they supported groups which filed the motion for reconsideration on the Supreme Court’s decision stating that EDCA is constitutional.
